OK we admit it, we didn’t know that noise pollution had such a massive impact on our health and our world.

This was a really insightful watch, full of health information and a superb intro to a fascinating new DePIN project.

Plus, the innovative solution the team have made, sounds like a lot of fun.

Our favourite quote:

“If Helium and Pokemon Go had a baby - that’s Silencio”

The Product

Silencio is a blockchain-based project offering a mobile application that enables users to collect and share ambient noise levels through their smartphones.

This crowdsourced data contributes to a global dataset aimed at addressing noise pollution, enhancing urban planning, and improving the selection of quieter real estate, hotels, and restaurants.

Noise Pollution Problem

  • Noise pollution is linked to chronic diseases, including heart conditions and diabetes.

  • In France, noise pollution costs nearly €200 billion annually, impacting GDP.

  • Globally, noise pollution's cost is estimated at $5 trillion, making it the second most harmful environmental pollutant.

  • Over 100 million Americans live in areas with noise levels above 65 decibels, affecting health and cognitive development, especially in children from minority and low-income families.

  • Noise pollution also disrupts wildlife, affecting animal behavior and ecosystems.

How the Product Works & Involvement

  1. User-Friendly App: Silencio offers a free, gamified app that allows users to measure noise levels in their surroundings, contributing to a global noise pollution dataset.

  2. Crowdsourcing Data: By walking through cities or checking into various venues, users can collect noise data, helping to map out noise pollution levels worldwide.

  3. Engagement Through Gamification: The app rewards users for their contributions with in-app points and rankings, encouraging continuous participation and competition.

  4. Passive Data Collection: Future updates will include a passive measurement mode, allowing for the collection of noise data with minimal user intervention, broadening the scope of data collection.

  5. Community and Rewards: Users can invite others to join, enhancing the network effect and data richness. Participants are rewarded with noise coins, which reflect their contribution and can be used in future tokenomics.

Silencio not only addresses a significant environmental and public health issue but also engages a wide audience through its innovative use of technology, gamification, and the blockchain ecosystem.
